Safeguarding

Safeguarding is everyone’s responsibility and we must all do our best to ensure that we are keeping students safe. Our school procedures are available to view here or we can provide you with a hard copy. If you have any questions, please contact one of the team.

Safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children is defined as:

  • Protecting children from maltreatment;
  • Preventing impairment of children’s health or development;
  • Ensuring that children grow up in circumstances consistent with the provision of safe and effective care;
  • Taking action to enable all children to have the best outcomes.

Everyone who comes into contact with children and their families has a role to play in safeguarding children. School is particularly important as they are in a position to identify concerns early and provide help for children, to prevent concerns from escalating. Schools and their staff form part of the wider safeguarding system for children. This system is described in statutory guidance Keeping Children Safe in Education 2025 and Working Together to Safeguard Children 2023. Schools and colleges work with social care, the police, health services, and other services to promote the welfare of children and protect them from harm.

Chapter 2 Project – Supporting Young People’s Mental Health Through Creativity

Funded by the NHS, the programme is completely free and is specially designed for 14–19-year-olds with mental health issues, and includes those waiting for treatment. Chapter 2 offers a weekly creative wellbeing group for 14+ providing safe, non-judgemental spaces for young people experiencing mental health/well-being challenges. The group supports those waiting for treatment as well as offering early intervention to reduce the risk of escalation.

Through drama, creative writing, photography, film, and zine-making, young people will:

·                process emotions and manage anxiety,
·                express identity and build self-belief,
·                recover from isolation and develop peer support,
·                explore ambitions and discover new opportunities.

Sessions are youth-led, co-designed, and delivered by highly trained creative practitioners experienced in supporting mental health and based of young people’s interests; Designed by them for them! Young people will also gain access to cultural opportunities, new friendships, and signposting to volunteering, training, and further creative programmes. Chapter 2 helps young people manage distress, build resilience, and find new confidence and belonging.

As part of this we would love to invite young people to our sessions at the New Vic Theatre they take place

·                Mondays – 10am-12pm

·                Tuesdays – 4pm-6pm

They don’t need to attend both sessions to be part of the project just one – please see the Chapter 2 flyer for more details.
